And it all began like this....
Daughter, Rebecca, had a vision of opening a "wine bar" in Redding, CA., but she insisted
that it had to be located in the same block as the Cascade Theatre
(inaugurated in 1935 and restored to its original beauty in 2004 ). When that
exact location was miraculously available, we all figured it was "meant to be", scary as it was.
She and her husband/owner, Alex, spent months planning a menu and researching wine.
Daughter/owner, Janis, is the decorator of the family and came up with the warm and
inviting colors and decor. Dad/owner, John, has previous business experience (former owner
of the Metolius River Lodges in Camp Sherman, OR),and keeps things on an even keel.
We opened for business May 23, 2006 and the buzz on the street is that of excitement (see
our grand opening review by Marc Beauchamp). The comment is "It's about time!!" Our
guests are very receptive to the idea of trying out new wines that are unfamiliar to them
and complimenting that wine with either one of our recommended small plates or choosing
from our nightly specials. We are repeatedly told by our guests that as soon as they step
through the front door, they feel like they are dining on the "East Coast" as they experience
the same great food and cozy ambiance as you would find there.
We are all excited about the ongoing Revitalization of Downtown Redding and look forward
to being able to provide all our new neighbors and customers with a well-deserved place to
relax and enjoy good food, good wine and good company that doesn't require "crossing the
river".
